Solids of revolution
INTRODUCTION

These activities are designed to be viewed on a 17-inch screen and with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels because some windows show measurements in centimetres and millimetres that, when viewed with another configuration, won't correspond with reality; and the size of some windows can even be too big.
Students should have a pencil and a piece of paper to do calculations and deductions of the formulas used in these activities.
After checking the activities, it is a good idea for students to share ideas.

OBJETIVOS
  • To recognise the different solids of revolution in the objects in our surroundings.
  • To know the net of the cylinder and of the cone.
  • To deduce and know the cylinder, cone and sphere area formulae.
  • To apply these formulae when calculating the areas of these solids.
  • To deduce and know the cylinder, cone and sphere volume formulae.
  • To apply these formulae when calculating the volumes of these solids.
  • To get into the habit of writing down the corresponding measurement unit in the outcome of an exercise.
