The net of the cylinder. Deduce the area formula.

The cylinder surface area spread on a plane is formed by two equal circles being its bases and  by a rectangle being its curved surface.

Draw the cylinder net in your notebook.
Write the base area formula.
Write the formula for the curved surface area in your notebook.

The curved surface area is the area
of a rectangle whose base is the circumference and whose height is the cylinder height.

To find the total surface area of a cylinder, add up the area of its two bases and the curved surface area.

In this window you can change the radius and the height of the cylinder.
