In my humble opinion, 25% for nofollow links is too much. Matt Cutts from Google has already openly stated that Google gives absolutely no credit to nofollow links. From SEO point of view, it doesn't carry lot of value. I don't believe in him because he is a speciallist but nofollow links were made to prevent PR and SEO Juice leak. But a Nofollow anchor text backlink tells the search engine that your website is related to the anchor text. So, nofollow backlinks will still give you some leverage in terms of relevancy. Nofollow backlinks, like you said, will help your link building campaign look natural to the search engines. But I think you should not go beyond 12-15% at max. You can have trusted domains like Wikipedia link to you with nofollow. It helps due to domain trust/authority. Search engines think "Anything Wikipedia links to must be good and Google is right becausewiki is moderated". So, no doubt links from trusted domains help even though they are nofollow. Forget PR completely. Unless you are selling links, that make you more bucks with high PR, you must never think about PR. There is nothing like PR in my SEO dictionary. It has nothing to do with search rankings. It only looks good when the green bar in your browser gets bigger. Google takes care of the PR. You just do your thing. Backlinks from Relevant and similar themed sites. This is lot more important than you think and guys at Market Samurai do have some point even though most of the things about them is BS. Getting relevant links from similarly themed website will skyrocket your rankings and you will rank with lesser off site seo efforts. Directory submissions are good if you want to narrate an old story to your grandson. It really isn't worth it provided most of them are link farms. But, it the directory is a good and updated one, believe me, it is still worth it. Don't forget DMOZ-the link from Dmoz counts a lot. So, the main rules of Back links are: 1. No link farms. 2. More emphasis to the links from authority sites and similar themed websites. 3. Every non-link farm link helps- be it small help or big help. 4. A good approach will be to link to every backlinks with RSS backlinks so that it gets indexed quickly and every link carries some value. 5. Make your profile pages full of useful info and it should look legit so that link building is more efficient. As far as I am concerned, Press Releases are one of the best ways to build backlinks. Follow the golden rule of Press releases and do paid submission. PR sites are looking to earn money and you can earn lot more by doing paid submissions. Results will justify itself.
