DJ in Calgary - The Playlist and how to rely on DJ to play the best songs. It’s a topic a lot of couples struggle with. We DJ lots of events in the Calgary area and also this topic comes up a whole lot with the couples we meet.

Most of our couples are concerned with avoiding cheesy wedding music. I’m referring to stuff like the Chicken Dance, Macarena, or perhaps the YMCA. And most of our couples wish to include their favorite songs in the day. So developing a playlist for the reception generally seems to make a lot of sense.

We love to including your favorite music within your wedding reception. It’s an easy way for all of us to make your wedding personal and unique. And it’s meaningful to you when you hear a song that makes it really feel like it’s your day.

But picking your music can be tricky - and here’s why.

You won’t have the ability to force your family and friends to bop to the music you're looking at any more than it is possible to force them to have some fun. You may have chosen the good songs, but if your guests don’t respond to them your DJ won’t be able to prevent an empty oasis.

As a DJ, that’s in regards to the worst thing in the world. So DJs have developed types of methods dealing with the playlist question. Some DJs is only going to allow you to request a restricted number of songs so they still have the flexibility to help keep the party going. Other DJs will play anything you want and put the success (or not enough success) of the party with you.

We encourage couples to be involved in the music selection. We wish you to tell us everything you like. But if we’re given an extremely long list of Must-Play songs the oasis may suffer. It all relies upon the songs on your list. If you ensure that it stays classic, familiar, and easy to dance to everyone are certain to get involved. But if your songs are eclectic or maybe your group is extremely traditional the party may well not work out the way you expect.

We’ve found that it works best to possess a Do-Not-Play list of forbidden songs, a list of Must-Plays, and a list of songs you’d want to hear. Combining by investing in our experience and power to read the crowd we’ll have the ability to fill your dance floor. We will play every one of the Must-Plays and as many of your other requests as you possibly can while still working to keep your dance floor packed!

That can bring us to the second part - trust.

If you'd like the best of both worlds you have to trust that your DJ understands both you and your vision for your wedding. Should you don’t have that trust you won’t be able to let go of control and believe in them to do what’s best for your party and for your wedding.

So what should you do?

First - choose the best entertainer. This is the crucial part. You need to feel understood. Discuss how he will handle your request list and what he'll do if it isn’t working.

Second - decide what's most important to you. Can it be important for you to hear every song in your list? Or is it more important that your guests are experiencing a great time and dancing all night long? You can have both, but one must have priority within the other.

Ask your entertainer for his professional opinion on whether your requested music could keep people dancing. He should give you an honest assessment according to his experience. In the event you picked the right entertainer he’ll be considered a pro - and he’ll be a master at what he does. Trust him and take his opinion under consideration.

Calgary Wedding DJ - It is your wedding and ultimately you are paying someone to play music for you. If you need to choose every song that gets played then it is your right to achieve this. The dancing may not be as good as it could are already though. We would rather talk as much as we must with our couples in what songs will and does not be played. There is always a way to work in your favorite songs - perhaps the ones you can’t dance to - and keep your guests having a good time.
