Thailand’s native food has become celebrated across the world in recent years for its distinct taste and curious spices. Just as with other cultures in South East Asia, Thai food balances various constituent ingredients beautifully.

Nowadays, many pubs and restaurants across the UK, and increasingly the world, serve ‘Thai food’. Although, lets be frank, at best this service only emulates the regions food. It is infact rarely made by Thai’s and as such can’t be described as legitimate Thai cuisine. At best it is a pale imitation that rarely honors the original.

Before discussing Thai food further, here is a few facts about Thailand. Thailand is the only country in the south east of Asia untouched by European colonial powers. Thailand is by no means a small country, infact it has a larger land mass than Spain. In recent years Thailand has been discovered by western tourists and its culinary secrets have been discovered and celebrated by the world ever since.

Common herbs used in Thai cuisine include lemon grass, mint, Thai basil, turmeric, garlic and, naturally, the signature ingredient is Chili. These are the ingredients responsible in the creation for dishes including roast duck and Seafood and Panang curries. These dishes are often complimented by rice and noodles. Jasmine rice and egg noodles are notable favourites.

Rich in fruit and vegetables the Thai diet is very healthy. Lets contrast this to the typical Americanized or European diet. Food from Thailand is actually very healthy.
