   Although the phenomenon of magnetism was known in antiquity, it was not well understood until the nineteenth century, when it was made comprehensible thanks to the work carried out by Maxwell.

    Electromagnetism is at the heart of the creation of electric energy, radio, TV, computer engineering and information technology, so it certainly plays a crucial role in present day society.

   We will try to approach the subject in a simple way, without using complicated mathematics, to make some of its main properties comprehensible.
