Tetrominoes are made up of four neighbours which are joined together in different ways by moving squares either horizontally or vertically. There are five tetrominoes which are illustrated below:

Exercise 1
Describe the evolution of 5 tetrominoes and find out if their evolution depends on where they are located on the grid. |

Configuration patterns b and c above eventually form the following stable pattern which is known as the BEEHIVE.
Configuration pattern e eventually forms and oscillating figure of period 2 called TRAFFIC LIGHTS.

Exercise 2
The following box contains a collection of initial configuration patterns and their names. Examine the evolution of each one and find out what they have in common.
