A spherical mirror is a reflecting surface which could be formed like a section of a sphere separated from the rest by a plane. There are two types of spherical mirrors: concave and convex. The axis (or axis of symmetry) of a spherical mirror is defined as a line which passes through the centre of curvature and the vertex. The following visual shows two spherical mirrors, one concave and one convex, both with their axis of symmetry. In both of them the centre C is indicated by a dot. The "silvered" surface corresponds to the mirror.
