SPELLING RULES FOR THE 3rd PERSON SINGULAR
 

(THE PRESENT SIMPLE)


  • As a general rule, we add -s to the verb stem to make the 3rd person singular.

put - puts find - finds
cut - cuts
  • When the verb end in one -e, we add -s.
live - lives like - likes
see - sees
(but have - has).
  • When the verbs ends in -y preceded by a consonant, we leave out -y and add -ies.
try - tries carry - carries
study - studies
  • When the verb ends in -o, -ss, -sh, -ch, we add -es.

go - goes wash - washes
watch - watches
