Definition

A function f is a relation between two sets A
and B such that every element a
of A is uniquely associated with an element b of B. The element b is usually represented f(a)
(read "f of a") When A and B are sets of real numbers the pairs (a,f(a)) are plotted in a X/Y axis. Those points form the graph of the function. Vertical line test: the graph of a function can`t cut any vertical line in more than one point. |

Activity
1: Click on the point P and move it to move the vertical line. You will see the points where the vertical line crosses each curve. Use the vertical line test to determine which of the curves is not the graph of a function. |
